The problem in this study was ‘
Correlation Between Mastery simple past tense and Ability to Write Simple Sentences
of The Second Year Students at SMP 1
Brangsong Kendal. The population in research was the
second year students at SMP 1 Brangsong Kendal in the academic year 2005/2006.
The total of population was 200 students consisting of 5 classes.
Te
population sample of research was 15% from the total of population, consisting
of 30 students. There were two variables in this research, namely independent
variable is simple past tense (x) and dependent variable is ability to write
simple sentences (y)
The
method of collecting data was the test method and documentation
method. The data was analyzed with simple past tense test and simple sentences
test to evaluate the hypothesis. The result of analysis for the students’
mastery in simple past tense was 7.4,
score: 217 and had
good criterion. For the students’
ability to write simple sentences test was 6. 5,
score: 190 and had
enough criterion.
For
hypothesis computation, r computation was higher than r
tale, so it can be said that there was positive
correlation between the mastery of simple past tense and the ability to write
simple past sentences for the second year students at SMP 1 Brangsong in
academic year 2005/2006. The conclusion of the research was ‘ There was a significance correlation between
mastery of simple past tense and ability to write simple sentences.’
From
the above explanation the writer would like to give some suggestion to the
student to increase the mastery of simple past tense and ability to write
simple sentences. Because it not talent. The students get it by practise. So
that a student who has ability will only meet the minimum difficulties in
getting mastery of simple past tense and ability to write simple sentences.
