The Captain and The Clue Technique as An Alternative In Teaching Reading:


Abstract

The Indonesian government always tries to improve the English teaching.  They try to improve the quality of the teacher and other components that are involved in educational processes.  There are some factors which influence it, such as the quality of the book, teaching technique, and classroom interaction.  The teaching technique is one of the important ways for the teacher to implicate in teaching learning process.  in this study, the writer introduced an interesting technique to create an effective teaching and learning process.
This final project is discussing about “The Captain and The Clue Technique as An Alternative in Teaching Reading”.  The objectives of this study are: (1) To find out the implementation of The Captain and The Clue Technique by the teacher; (2) To find out the difficulties faced by the teacher and the students during the implementation the technique; (3) To find out the teacher’s solution in solving the problem in improving teaching reading.  This final project is categorized as descriptive qualitative.
In this final project, the data was taken by doing observation to the teacher and the students and questionnaire to the students about their opinion about the implementation of “The Captain and The Clue Technique” during teaching learning process.  The writer also took data through interview to the teacher directly about “The Captain and The Clue Technique” as an alternative in teaching reading.
The result of analysis of the observation, questionnaire, and interview; first, the teacher’s way in implementing the technique is good; second, the teacher’s facing difficulties in managing the time and the student’s lack of vocabulary mastery and grammar; third the teacher’s solution to solve the problems are the teacher asked the student’s attention by giving small talk and question and giving vocabularies practice.  After doing the research, the writer concludes that “The Captain and The Clue Technique” is effective and can be an alternative for the teacher in teaching reading.  The writer suggests to the English teacher to be more creative and the students should be more active and creative.  The students also should read frequently in order to add their knowledge, to get new information, and to add their vocabulary mastery.
