Techniques Of Mastering Speaking Ability By Leader Of The Front Liners At Novotel Hotel Semarang

This study is purposed to know how the leader of the Front liners at Novotel Hotel Semarang overcomes the problems in practicing speaking skill. Besides, it would like to know certain techniques used by leader of the Front liners in mastering speaking.

This study used research design of qualitative descriptive. The subject of the research was taken from the leader of the Front liners at Novotel Hotel Semarang. It used sampling of purposive; therefore the writer chose the leader of the Front liners. It was caused that she has best capability among the other hotel officer members in mastering speaking ability and know more about the Department of Front liners at Novotel Hotel Semarang. The writer used instruments of interview, observation, and documentation. The procedure of data collections were first, the writer prepared materials as the instrument before doing the research. Second, he was going on to do interview to leader of the Front liners. Third, she observed the leader of the Front liners in practicing speaking in English hotel activities. Fourth, she collected photographs and brochures of Novotel Hotel Semarang, and finally she analyzed the data.

The findings of the research shows that: at the first time, the leader of the Front liners had problems in practicing speaking. They were lack of self confidence, limited vocabulary, grammar and difficult to pronounce the words as like the native accents. But after she met guys from America, she started to learn speaking actively by finding the comfortable ways and doing many activities in learning speaking. Everyone has different comfortable ways in learning speaking. Here the leader has unique ways to learn speaking. She just practiced speaking by herself in front of the mirror by reminding the native accents that had been met or watched western movie before. Besides, she joined actively in English Hotel Training which offers many kinds of English hotel activities.

Finally the writer comes into conclusion that: According to the leader of front liners experiences, she had techniques of mastering speaking ability. They are: Setting our mind that English is fun to learn. Find out the comfortable ways to learn English and forced ourselves to practice although we have no partner. Practice speaking continuously. Be interactive with English program, chatting in the internet, making friend with foreigner or expert in English. On the other hand, the leader had some problems in speaking. They are grammar, limited vocabulary, and pronunciation. Therefore, she tried to overcome those problems with making good relationship to the foreigner, active in English club, browsing the internet, listening western song, watching western movie and following the native accents
